Infinity Machine

Sally's job as UN Space Commissioner gets quite interesting when a ship full of time-displaced people is discovered in the Atlantic. This also enables Sally to lead an all important peace mission to Baltan. The cold war with Baltan is finally showing signs of ending with the return of Mercy Collins, and Sally spends a year on the city trying to forge a new relationship with Earth. But now her associate commissioner arrives with a new problem. New Ontario, a planet Sally has visited before, is suddenly becoming important again. The cruel "masters" who rule the planet have apparently been displaced by a band of rebels with mysterious powers. Growing on the surface of this world is a massive structure that is generating enormous power. Earth wants answers, and Sally is being asked to help. But she won't do it alone. No human is immune to the Masters' influence, but perhaps non-humans would be. Sally accelerates another project she has been quietly overseeing. She contacts Ian, who has been tasked to make first contact with the Szzzyyyxx, a peaceful, if unusual species on the other side of a fold beyond the asteroid belt. Sally must put a strain on this new friendship to ask for help in what could easily deteriorate into a war. Because more is happening on New Ontario than just an insurrection. A band of former slaves now have the aid of a mysterious benefactor who is using them to build a machine that bends time. But who is this benefactor and what does he want? The answer is more terrifying than the question. Now Sally must work to prevent a disaster that could have implications throughout all of human history.

    Interesting Series
I stepped into this series at nearly the end (by accident - it might help if the writer made the series nature and position in the series a lot clearer) but I found that this volume, at least, stood quite well on its own. Overall, I found the story compelling. I wanted to find out what happened to the characters next. I will probably even go back and listen to the other volumes of the series (something I don’t do very often). My biggest problem with the story is not that he dives into multi-dimensional issues (which I actually thought he did quite well) but that he then projects them back down to the ā€œmundaneā€ world without seeming concern for what that says about the physical laws of the ā€œmundaneā€ world. Still, he does a pretty good job with what he does depict. I also very much liked the information that he reveals about the nature of the folds used, in the series, to travel interstellar distances. It’s not a huge reveal but it’s important. I also won’t spoil it for the reader in case it wasn’t revealed earlier in the series. Thank you for the book.

    Excellent!
His narration reminds me of Nathan Lowell, who happens to be a personal favorite of mine. Glad I stumbled upon this, I'll be listening to the entire saga now that I'm aware of it. Love it!

    Another Winner!
I love everything that Paul J. Joseph has written. The entire story arc from Through The Fold to Infinity Machine is just awesome. Great characters, enthralling story, good production quality; his books have it all. If you listen to just one chapter, you will be hooked!
